Research overview

Vilon is a lab-made peptide made of just two amino acids — Lysine and Glutamic acid, nicknamed "KE." It's part of the same Russian-designed bioregulator peptide family as Vesugen, created to mimic and simplify what's found in a thymus (a small immune-system gland) extract called Thymalin (Int J Immunopharmacol 1997; Int J Mol Sci 2022). In fact, KE is literally one of the two active ingredients inside that thymus extract, so Vilon can be thought of as taking one useful piece out of a natural extract and making it in pure, synthetic form.

Mechanism under study

Vilon appears to work on the immune system by helping young immune cells called T-cells mature properly and by boosting infection-fighting cells like neutrophils (Int J Immunopharmacol 1997). Like its cousin Vesugen, it also seems to slip into the cell nucleus and directly grab onto DNA, turning about three dozen genes up or down (Molecules 2021; Int J Mol Sci 2023). In lab tests with human stem cells, it boosted a 'longevity gene' called SIRT1 by 6 to 8 times in younger cells (Adv Gerontol 2023), and in immune cells it calmed down inflammation signals (Int J Mol Sci 2022).

Human evidence summary

Human evidence here is thin and low-quality. One report describes adding Vilon to standard cancer treatment for elderly patients with advanced colorectal cancer — the authors say it may help patients survive longer and have fewer complications, but they themselves call it early, preliminary work, not a real controlled trial (Adv Gerontol 2005). Lab tests done directly on blood cells taken from elderly people (aged 75-88) showed changes suggesting more active gene expression (Bull Exp Biol Med 2004; Georgian Med News 2023). Despite being the most-studied peptide in this whole family, there is still no properly controlled human trial (the gold-standard kind with a placebo group and random assignment).

Preclinical evidence summary

The single most talked-about finding for Vilon comes from mice: long-term dosing increased how long the mice lived and slowed down spontaneous tumor growth (Dokl Biol Sci 2000). This is an exciting result, but it was published as a short report without full details, and — importantly — no other independent lab has repeated and confirmed it.
