Prostamax is a lab-made, four-amino-acid peptide (called KEDP) designed to target the prostate gland. It's easy to confuse with other similarly-named products (like Prostatilen, an older cow-derived extract, or Cortagen, a different peptide) — these are all separate things (Georgian Med News 2012).
Mechanism under study
The clearest documented effect is on chromosomes inside cells: in blood cells from older adults, Prostamax roughly doubled a measurement called "sister-chromatid exchange" (a marker of how DNA strands swap material) and increased another chromosome activity marker, while reducing tightly-packed sections of DNA (Georgian Med News 2012). The researchers interpreted this as "unlocking" genes that had gone quiet with age — but as explained in the side-effects section below, this same change can also be read as a sign of possible DNA instability, so it's genuinely a two-sided finding.
Human evidence summary
There have been no human trials measuring real-world prostate outcomes. The only human-related data is from blood cells taken from elderly people and studied in a lab dish (the chromosome findings above).
Preclinical evidence summary
In a lab-dish experiment using pieces of prostate tissue from young and old rats, a small amount of Prostamax made the tissue grow more (Adv Gerontol 2006). There's no study of Prostamax in a disease model like prostate enlargement or infection, and no whole-animal trial tracking real health outcomes.
