Research overview

CJC-1295 (With DAC) is a lab-made, longer-lasting version of the natural brain hormone GHRH, which tells your pituitary gland to release growth hormone. Scientists changed its structure in four spots (like the no-DAC version) but then attached an extra chemical "hook" called DAC (Drug Affinity Complex) that lets the molecule permanently grab onto a common blood protein called albumin. This makes it stick around in the bloodstream for days instead of minutes (Jetté et al., Endocrinology 2005).

Mechanism under study

Picture a message-in-a-bottle that normally dissolves in the ocean within minutes. The DAC hook is like gluing that bottle to a giant, slow-moving whale (albumin) that swims through your blood for days. As the whale swims around, the message keeps knocking on your pituitary gland's door, telling it to keep releasing growth hormone — not in quick bursts like your body naturally does, but as one long, steady push that can last a week or more.

Human evidence summary

Two well-designed human studies (randomized and placebo-controlled, meaning some people got a fake shot for comparison) tested this in healthy adults aged 21-61. A single shot raised growth hormone by 2 to 10 times normal levels for up to 6 days, and raised IGF-1 by 1.5 to 3 times for 9-11 days. When people took repeated doses, IGF-1 stayed elevated for up to 28 days. No one had a serious reaction, and the drug was considered pretty well tolerated, especially at moderate doses (Teichman et al., JCEM 2006). Importantly, though, this is the only real human dataset that exists — no study has tested whether it actually helps people build muscle, lose fat, or perform better, and no long-term safety data exist beyond these short trials.

Preclinical evidence summary

In rats, the DAC version produced 4 times more growth hormone response over 2 hours compared to the natural, unmodified hormone — showing the albumin-sticking trick really does boost and extend its effect (Jetté et al. 2005). This animal data helped confirm the mechanism before human testing began.
