Chonluten is a lab-made peptide (a short chain of just three amino acids, called EDG) that was designed to copy a natural substance found in lung and airway tissue. It's part of the same Russian "bioregulator" peptide family as Cardiogen, but this one was aimed at the lungs and bronchial tubes (the airways that carry air to your lungs) (Int J Mol Sci 2022).
Mechanism under study
In a lab dish using human immune cells, Chonluten turned on certain internal cell-signaling switches (called ERK1/2, JNK, and STAT1) and calmed down inflammation — it reduced two chemicals (TNF-alpha and IL-6) that cells release when they're irritated by bacteria. It also made immune cells stick less to blood vessel walls, which the researchers think means less inflammation overall (Int J Mol Sci 2022). Think of it like a peptide that might tell overly-alarmed immune cells to calm down — but this was only shown in cells in a dish, not in a living lung.
